I am humbled to be elected as your Convention Director for the 2016-2017 term. Having served as the Chapter of Council Representative and Vice President for the Long Beach City College Nursing Student Association, I have gained valuable skills in communication and teamwork. I am excited for the opportunity to serve at the state level and to have the chance to inspire students across the state of California.

Involvement in my local chapter has allowed me to extend a helping hand to my fellow nursing students. Taking on a leadership role has instilled confidence within me and a sense of comradery amongst my peers. Running a first aid booth at the Southern California Special Olympics, educating families on bicycle safety, and coordinating guest speakers are a few of the many interactions that have helped mold my sense of responsibility and leadership skills.

I am currently completing my Associate Degree in Nursing at Long Beach City College. Nursing school is no easy feat but I soon learned that taking care of myself was necessary to succeed academically. Finding a balance between work and life is a priority I set for myself.  Burnout is a hot topic amongst nursing students so I made sure I spent time outdoors hiking, camping, and birdwatching. Staying in touch with nature has helped clear my mind and body. “Self-care is not selfish. You cannot serve from an empty vessel.” – Eleanor Brownn

Goals for 2016-2017: 

• My main duty as convention director is to plan and coordinate the next CNSA Annual Convention in October 2017. As Chair of the Convention Program Planning Committee, I shall assemble an incredible team to assist with planning and preparing for a successful convention.

• Other duties as your Convention Director will be to write articles for Range of Motion and complete a monthly Convention Director Reports for each board meeting.

• In addition, I plan to make myself a resource to our CNSA President, Kyle Navarro, and other board members, committee chairs, advisors, and all members, to aide in the mission of CNSA in "advancing the transition of the student to professional nurse through leadership development, education, mentorship, advocacy, activism, and stewardship."
