2016-2017 Image of Nursing
West Coast University
Graduation: May 2017

I am elated to serve as the 2016-2017 Image of Nursing Chair. I am currently in my last two terms of nursing school and will be graduating April,2017. My passion for helping people began back in September, 2001. After the attacks on 9/11 occurred I decided to join the United States Navy as a Corpsman. While in the Navy, I learned that I had a passion to help others. After my discharge from the Navy I became a Certified Nursing Assistant which awarded me to continued my love for Nursing. In 2007 I became a Licensed Vocational Nurse.  As a Lvn I have worked in Geriatrics, Pediatrics and Hospice. I was happy in my role as an Lvn, but always longed to do more than I was licensed to do. I knew the only way I would truly be happy was to obtain my Bsn and become a Registered Nurse. In 2013, After my Third child was born my husband endured a permanent injury. It was at the point in time I decided to make a blind leap of faith and return to school.

I have been involved on the local level at West Coast University Orange County CNSA Chapter as the President, Social Activity Chair, and Public Relations. I was also involved on the Image of Nursing Committee during the 2015-2016 term. At my school I also stay actively involved as a Mentor, Peer Assisted Learning Tutor and participating on the Student Advisory Council.

Goals for 2016-2017:

  • To form an Image of Nursing Committee that has representation from CNSA member throughout the state to ensure diversity.
  • Assist the local chapters in developing an Image of Nursing position at their chapter.
  • Assist CNSA members throughout the state to promote positive image of nursing to the public by spreading about the roles nurses serve and break the stereotypes and common misconceptions.
  • To assist the Breakthrough to Nursing Director and the Cultural Awareness chair in promoting cultural diversity awareness and diversity by organizing state wide Initiatives.
  • To initiate a statewide image of nursing project during my term.
  • To facilitate promoting awareness of all the wonderful attributes nurses demonstrate through social media resources and publications in Range of Motion.
