The California Nursing Students Association invites all nursing students to apply for the Nursing Students in Sacramento Internship (NSSI) which will be held from April 9-11, 2018

NSSI is a sponsored 3-day internship in Sacramento where you will meet and train with legislative nursing professionals from the American Nurses Association/California (ANA/C). This incredible internship gives California Nursing Students’ Association members who are selected as interns, a unique hands-on opportunity to learn more about the role of the Registered Nurse in policy and law. This is an unforgettable learning experience!

You will have the opportunity to attend Legislative Committee hearings in the Capitol, and personally meet with California Senate and Assembly members. The four interns will receive a diploma of completion and gain recognition statewide by receiving an article piece in the CNSA Range of Motion newsletter.

The application can be found below. The deadline to submit the application is

A few words from past recipients of the Nurses in Sacramento Internship

“It was a great experience where I was able to see with my own eyes just how hospital policy is shaped by healthcare legislation. The truth is that many legislators would love to hear a quick sound bite from their constituents about various policies they need to vote on because most of the time they don't know much first-hand about the issue. The legislators often do really value our input. You can't always expect to speak directly to the legislator either; they are busy. However, it is worth taking the time to speak to their staff because they will pass on an appropriate anecdote summarizing your stance on issues.” -Scott

“I applied for NSSI when I was in college after learning about it through attending CNSA membership meetings. Through my experience, I was able to gain an understanding of how bills affected nursing practice. This year I will be serving as an observer in the ANA Membership Assembly in D.C. This will be my third year attending. Because of NSSI, I have been able to make lifelong friendships with people who share my passion for nursing leadership and advocacy. I am able to create a voice for those who are in practice and am forever grateful to ANA for their role in my career.” -Tamara
